Roxanne Kramer, owner of Always A Woman, experienced breast cancer at the age of 34 when her children were 3, 6, 9, and 10.  After her mastectomy surgery and diagnosis of stage 3 cancer, she endured 12 months of chemotherapy, according to the protocol of the day.  Since there were no support groups just for breast cancer, Roxanne and 3 other women started the “Quad City Breast Cancer Support Group” in 1980.  After working as mastectomy bra and prosthetic fitters in a small pharmacy, she and her very good friend, JoAnn, decided to create their own shop, and "Always A Woman" opened April 4th 1989.  Roxanne, Ann, Anya, and Sally are Certified Mastectomy fitters through the "American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics, Inc."  Roxanne, Ann, Sally and Anya are Vendor Certified as well, and have also had breast cancer surgeries.

“AAW” not only offers a private, confidential, supportive, and feminine place for bra, prosthesis, and head wear fittings, but offers information about support group meetings, special Quad City breast cancer awareness events, and other local area resources (see Resources page).
